Am 16 years old and between 5 – 6(don’t really know my height or weight). I am skinny but not flexible. I work very hard when it comes to improving something. I did boxing for 4 months but moved here but am thinking of trying a different martial arts.(going to gym soon) but have a lot of stamina (am in the athletics club).I have recently been interested in martial arts but don’t know what one to do because there a lot of them near my area.I like the belt system they use in karate because I make a goal like achieve a red belt by 6 months etc. I was gonna visit the martial arts ones that are in my area but I figure it would take too long. So, what do you guys recommend I should do. I want an martial where it can help me in a street fight (fighting multiple people etc.) and also maybe some weapon handling. I would like to spar with people to see how much I progressed. I an martial arts where mainly I will like meet people in my age so I can spar make friends, rivals etc. I wouldn’t mind joining tournaments and stuff like that. I just want something I can mainly focus on achieving like self discipline and things like that.
These are some of the martial arts that are in my area:
Akido
Boxing
Capoeria
Tai chi
Karate(Shotakan and Kyoushin)
Kenpo
Kung fu
Kick boxing
Tae Kwon Do
Jiu jutsu (BBJ too)
Wushu
Judo
Shaolin way
Wing chun (kinda far away)

I’ll leaven up to you guys what do you think thanks. (sorry for my spelling and my paragraphs not making sense i apologise).

This isn’t really about motivation problems or writers’ block or any of that. Often, I *can* get myself to sit down and work on something, but I can’t *keep* my attention on it. I find I can only write a few sentences before my mind starts wandering. Eventually, I force myself back to writing, write a few more sentences, and my mind wanders again. It’s not that I’m not interested in what I’m doing, because I am. I just find that I have difficulty focusing my attention.

Does anyone else have this issue and what are some ways you try to improve your focus and self-discipline? How do you keep your mind on what you’re doing long enough to really accomplish something?

So, for one of my 9th grade reading assignment I have to read a book called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and summarize each chapter in one sentence and give my opinion and say how I can implement the habits. But, I am having problems with this particular paragraph. Its pretty long and I want to know if its ok, and how I can improve it. This my 1st draft, so its not entirely perfect. Here it is:

Habit 3 Put First Things First: As a teenager, I have many matters at hand, habit 3 helps to prioritize and manage my life. The more I organize my life, the more I can accomplish. The time quadrant explains four different types of people: The procastinator, the prioritizer, the yes-man and the slacker. In quadrant 1 is the procastinator, this involves things that are urgent and need to be done now, instead of other things that are important but not urgent. In quadrant 2 is the prioritzer, this- unlike the procastinator- consists of things that are important but not urgent, the prioritizer puts first things first. In quadrant 3 is the yes-man, this epitomizes someone who tries to satisfy everyone and does things to their command. Quadrant 4 is the slacker, who thinks nothing is important or urgent, and basically does nothing productive. To be more of a prioritizer, I need to say “no” to people and unimportant things, not waste time by putting off school work and such, and do important things in advance. The other half of Habit 3 is about learning to conquer fear and peer pressure. Fear and peer pressure keep from putting a lot kid’s most important things first. Sometimes it takes self-discipline to prioritize and get things done.

Does it make sense? Is my wording good? Is it too long? How can I shorten it w/out leaving out too much info? What other changes can I make? Is it advance enough? Too advanced? Thanks for all of your help!

I am writing my application for collge (in UK) I think college is different in the UK than to America.. It’s another school you go to, for 2 years, when you are 16 and you leave high school..just thought i’d clear it up cos some people before have been confused :)

Anyway, I need to write a short little statement about why i’d like to be in college..
(this is what it says to do:)

Please write a careful statement below giving the reasons for your application to Strode’s College. Include any comments describing yourself that would add strength to your application. In addition let us know of any interests you may have outside your studies and any responsibilities you may have undertaken in school and elsewhere. Mention any difficulties that you may have had in your schooling such as interruption for long illness or time abroad

(So far I have written:)

I think Strode’s College would be the best suited college for me as it has all the subjects I would be very interested in doing. I feel I possess the ability and willingness to learn new subjects and apply them to my learning and achieve the goals I hope for. I feel I am very responsible and think I have integrity. I am very hardworking and aim to achieve my aspirations as I am self-disciplined and have a positive attitude towards everything I do.

Is there anything you think I need to add/improve?? Please help!
Thankyouuuuu :)

I am going to be 28 years old, and I am ready to start my new career. I am catholic, but my wife and I do not attend church. I guess I still feel like a teenager, still like to party a lot, but I want to change my life and become a better person, and to make unlimited wealth, and to make a family. We are taking a very important trip in the next 2 weeks, and we come back, that is when we are going to make some big career moves. Should I involve church in my life? My wife and I do not practice any religion, but I was thinking about scientology? I guess what I am really asking for is strength to stop partying so much, discipline my self to work out everyday, and dedicate my life to my career move. Where do I get the discipline and strength? So that is when I ask myself if we need church in our lives, or what self motivation technique can I do, or is just really all up to me along with my heart and brain? Do I really need to have something else in my life? Thanks.

I am not a religious person, nor do I believe in god.
But I want to become a more spiritual person and make myself a better, more pure person.
What kinds of things can I do to improve my body and mind?
I was thinking like, meditation and things along those lines.
Maybe fasting sometimes for self-discipline.
Or can I get some links to some sites or books that could help me?
Right now I’m slipping into too much partying, bad diet, and cynicism. I’m letting down people I care about.
Help?
Really, don’t suggest religion.
I hate organized religion, and will never believe in god. I believe in people.

prompt 2. anything i need to add/improve? any advice is awesome!

Martial arts is something that has changed me into this different person I am today. Not only does it have effect on you physically, but mentally and emotionally. After 6 extensive, arduous years of training, I am proud to say that I received my black belt diploma at the beginning of 9th grade.
Exercising every day, devotion and dedication were key elements required to achieve the greatest award at the end. I first started becoming interested in 3rd grade after attending one of my family friend’s belt evaluations. Couple days later my mom enrolled me, and from that day on I was on my way to becoming a black belt holder. Though I was excited, I was very shy at that age to do new things especially those that involved with large group of children. After a few weeks I got use to the environment, and was never in doubt from that point on.
Tae kwon do can really alter your body through exercise and practice, but that’s not all to it. In martial arts the trainers also teach you self-discipline, respect, how to build your confidence, and proper etiquette. These are some qualities that make me proud today because I know other people can see them in me. I am polite, I show respect to get respect, and have proper manners that make me such a person. The quality that I am most proud of today is my self-confidence. Over the years, working with kids my age and participating in group activities has changed the way act than that 6 years ago.
Karate is one sport that will surely give your full a body a workout. Pad kicking, board/brick breaking, and sparring are only few of many activities done throughout the day. Every Saturday our instructor, would take our class of 30-40 students running up 3-4 miles up a hill early in the morning. After this lengthy exercise my ankles would feel as if they had been shattered to pieces, screaming in my mind out of pain. My heart would beat as loud as drums at a concert, thumping against my chest. The scorching heat of the sun, acted upon my perspiring skin, burning every inch of it. It felt as if my whole body was on the verge of collapsing on the jagged pavement. Running up those hills is one activity that I will never forget in my life. These are the experiences that have had the most affect upon me, turning me into a fit, dedicated, and ambitious person.

thanx
