I get side tracked just trying to follow up on the kids, so how can I expect the kids to do their tasks and not get sidetracked – LOL.

Seriously though, my 4-almost 5 year old daughter has to be asked 5 times almost to do one simple chore. I have to stand over her to make sure she does it.

I have so much on my plate and to try to get the kids to do chores is just adding more to myself. I don’t know how other parents succeed.

I’ve used a chore/sticker chart with some success in the past on my son. I’ll have to try that again so that they’ll know I’m serious : )

I get sidetracked doing chores too and I’m 19! Cleaning my room takes a good 5 hours or so.

I HATE doing chores and so do my brothers. my mother usually threatens us so we will do it.

I hate chores but my dad made a list. It has all our names in it. And if we miss a day or something its a x and if we do it its a check mark

give them 2 or 3 chores they have to do before being allowed any priveleges (video games, phone, tv, etc.) once they finish the chores they can do the fun things, or do more chores which they can get paid for. the first couple of chores are their responsibility that they dont get paid for but they can get paid for doing more then they are required to do. it teaches good values it worked really well in my home. If we got on the computer or something before we were done then we got another unpaid chore added to our list for that day. it helped us remember not to slack off.

im 13 and i hate doing chores………………i luv when i get payed 4 dem…………..my mama says it helps me learn the value of a dolar and like how hard u have to work 4 ya money and how fast it goes

i have a younger cousin who i spend alot of time and she iz 4 and she luves cleaning…………we bought her i broom and mopp shuvle rack n etc. that was for lil kids at target they were all minature in cute n stuff so now when sumbdy is cleaning she wants to help……………..she also cleans her own room………..irdk ( i really dnt knw) y she likes to do it but she allways says big girls help clean up she thinks its fun sumtimes we play games wen we are cleaning up and sing songs together off disney channel usually

I had no problems with getting my kids to do chores, or homework etc.. Sounds like the problem is you aren’t following through on your supervision as a parent. Little kids do well when you do the task with the child. It’s fun and they learn. As long as you stay focused, they stay focused.

I agree with the other mom about turning off TVs etc., get the work done first, before it’s free time for fun.

EDIT: I have not paid my kids to clean their own rooms, nor to do minor jobs that keep the place going. They get paid for bigger jobs at random. They are told what the job pays and they have the option of doing the job or not. (like waxing a car). They do not have the option of making their beds, and I’m not going to pay them for it either. They don’t complain and like to help, so I guess it’s turning out ok for us.

I set aside a time in the morning where all my boys have a list of chores that they need to do. When they start I turn off all tvs and anything else that can distract them while they are getting what they need to get done. As soon as they are finished we walk around the house and I check what they did and then check it off of their list. If they have done it all right then they get to do whatever they wish for the next hour if not they have to finish first. Hope this helps!

i’m 13 and i hateeeee doing chorse but i like when i get paid for doing them.. not too much money but i think u should give them a couple dolors for each thing they do and dont pay them if they lack off =] that is what helps me do them =] hope i helped you
