I hate to make things sound simple when the problem isn’t but in this case the solution is easy. Just do it, if you have low self esteem about your physical or mental abilities take time each day and point out a good thing about yourself and being assertive just bite down and push on. If you need more detailed information they make tons of books. Good luck and have fun.

Check this site and see if you find the info useful, I did.
Also, the use of positive affirmations to change the internal dialogue that goes on in your mind all day is crucial.
There are loads of good books that can help with this problem, and many counsellors offer assertiveness training or classes that can help.
This is something only YOU can do though, no-one else can do it for you. So take the first step, and go for it!

You should try making a list of really small, easy goals to accomplish, than accomplish them. Each time the goals can get harder but start out easy. This will build self-esteem. For instance, you first list could be of just four things: take out trash, change litter box, put away the dishes, do my homework. Or whatever your goals are up to you. Check them off and you feel good about yourself.

If you have a special talent or skill, why not volunteer and try to help out someone else? That is a great way to build your self-confidence and knowing your helping someone else in the world is great for your self-esteem. It can be as simple as volunteering at a elementary school to help a kid start to learn to read, help out at a homeless shelter, walk the dogs at an animal rescue (they would love that!). Maybe you’ll meet someone at one of these places and you’ll have something in common to build a friendship. I don’t know how old you are, but the assertiveness just usually comes as you get a bit older. Good luck!
