They are totally different.
Discipline is way of teaching your child how to behave appropriately and child abuse is illegal.

Child abuse is illegal and mean. It’s the saddest thing ever!
discipline is good when used appropriately. A child should never be beaten!

Discipline is teaching a child the difference between wrong and right without inflicting harm on the child. For some parents and in some cultures this can involve a spanking which should be on a clothed bottom. Child abuse is when a child is being hurt by a grown up in either a physical, sexual, or emotional way. Some people see spanking as child abuse so I see where that can be confused, and sometimes spanking can become child abuse if the child is hit out of anger.
