What kind of chores do you give for 5 kids?

grumpywhitegirl asked:

I have two 9yr old girls, two 8yr old girls, and one 6yr old boy.
I am fed up with them being messy and want them to start learning about responsibility. What are some good chores for them besides laundry?

the oldest Can Vaccume or two can split that job.
Just tell them to cover as much of the rug as possible in 5 minutes.(Which is really long so your rug will be clean)

Teach one or two how to wash the windows. (i.e. if you let them do it thereseves the first time them your windows might be a mess)

We have one of those things where you put wet rag on bottom to wash floor.

If you have something that is fun to menuver that washes floors or something the youngest would like that.

Say if you don’t do it I will cut the cable/internet from the TV.

Below is some add-ons I will add once in a while:
    Hope all this stuff helps.

You might want to give the bathroom job which is the most unpleasent and either give them a small pay for doing it, do it your self, or limit that kid on chores.

Make them exuse themselves at dinner and take there plate to the sink. Make them thank the cook for the meal after they have done that.
This is great when you have company or your over for dinner somewhere.

I WOULD NOT GIVE THE MOW GRASS JOB TO YOUR YOUNG KIDS.

Make one of your kids take out the trash normally and take it to the curb on trash day.
In order to do this you will have to give him a small alouance or give him special privlages like extra scoop of ice-cream, stay up later, etc.
If your other kids complain then say well if you start traking out the trash than mabie you can have them too!
They will either all be rushing for it or give up.

So you get the picture….you can make this their pay for living in your house.

    I hope this was helpful

    well lets see. I have 3 kids… 10, 9, and 7
each of my kids does a part of dishes (plates and bowls, cups, and silverware)
each is responsible for vacuuming their room daily
they all fold laundry and do laundry
they have to empty the trash from different parts of the house
    take out the trash
help cook one meal a day
    help put away groceries
    clean up the table

Those are the expected chores. We have a chore time. and each chore has different times. so we have laundry sorted in the morning (and I wash it), when they get home from school they do their homework, and have some free time.

then it is dished time, and dinner prep time. While one is washing dishes, one is helping make dinner, and one is folding laundry. and we rotate

after dinner, it is bath time. while one is in the bath the other s make their beds, pick up their rooms, and vacuum as needed.

weekly chores include deep cleaning the living room and dinign room, cleaning the cats litter box, and raking up dog piles.

we also have pay chores as in the kids can earn extra money by doing extra. (these are not per kid, but per job. so the first person who asks is the person who can do the work to earn the money.. or they can work together and earn less, but get it done faster)
washing the car is worth $3.00 a week
cleaning out the car is worth $3.00 a week (that includes vacuuming)
cutting the lawn is worth $10.00 a week (all three do this one together and it is with a push mower.. not electric or gas. But they mow it (almost always my oldest)(or I do and then rake it up and remove it)
Raking leaves in the fall is worth $5.00 a week
Watering the grass in the spring and every day is worth $5.00 a week

set up a big clean up day and give each one a job to do. i have 3 siblings and we basically do all the cleaning around the house, my little bro who is 7 cleans the toys and shoes and puts them away, my 9 year old sis dusts and cleans the glass my 11 year old sis puts things where they belong and makes up the bed and i (16) wash the dishes clean the bathroom sweep the floor and then we all do laundry together. i make it funner for them by rewarding $3 to whom ever does their job the best and we put on some music to pass time. it works great you should try it.

make a chore list of everything that needs done in the house and yard, this is what i do. This is a list I work off of.Just pick something (something they can do) And say do this………….. Dont always make it the same chore , that way they try everything that they are able to finish.

My children I never have to ask, they just do things on thier own. My daughter is 6 and LOVES to clean the fridge. She does a great job…… Reward them when they do something well. Make them redo it if they didnt even try. stay there with them and SEE that it gets done right

    Give allowance when they help

    My ten year old:
    1. Keeps his room clean
    2. Vaccuums the living room
    3. Sweeps the kitchen
    4. Cleans the kitchen counters
    My nine year old:
    1. Keeps his room clean
    2. Vaccuums the dining room
    3. Empties kitchen trash
    4. Clear and cleans the dinner table.
    My eight year old:
    1. Keeps his room clean
    2. Empties dining room trash (it’s a mini trash can)
    3. Mops the kitchen (usually a lake afterwards but he tries)
    4. Sets the dinner table
They also have misc little things around the house they can do for a little extra cash if they want like wiping down the outside of the cabinets, wiping down the stair case wall, shoveling snow, cleaning up after the dogs, feeding the dogs, etc.
Only the main chores are mandatory but they receive an allowance for it. My youngest hasn’t missed a day and has quite a bit saved up, my older two though don’t have that much appreciation for cash so slack off a bit. My baby is saving up for a car he says. :D

2 nine years old- work together one wash one dry dishes
    everyday
both 9 and 8 year olds- take turns sweeping and mopping floors each week.
ex: both 9 sweep this week, both 8 mop,
    next week switch jobs
2 eight year olds- both put things where they belong in the whole house

1 6 year old- makes beds, wipe up spills

don’t give them like a job tell them it’s a mission to help umm..
cleaning superman and teddy makeover for the 8 year girls for the 9 year girls tell them allowence and to shut up about the superman
buy oat tag and star stickers
    put names on oattag
skip a space or two so they don’t get messed up
put that to a wall high up so they can’t cheat
if you see them help superman w/e give them a sticker
tell them superman comes each night to check how much stars they have.
if they have like 100 leave a toy on thier bed.
for the 8 year and 6 years
then the 9 years people tell them 5 bucks
    they’ll reach 100 in a month

Cleaning the kitchen, cleaning the bathroom. Let the kids alternate(that way you can see who’s good at what). Play music or even sing-a-longs with them. But let each one of them make up their beds and sweep.

A little late to start for the nine year olds but still can be done.

anything that needs done around the home. You do have to cut back on what you do for them first and then when they nitice it begin the prjocess. You want to go to the party then the room has to be cleaned first. You better mean exactly what you say and be sure that when you do say something you have thought it out first.

Yard work, dishes, laundry, general house work, wash the car, and most anything you can think of.

If they want something from you then they have to do something to earn it.

Good luck and I sure hope they do learn and soon.

Well, at the very least they should be responsible for their own rooms, the trash, feeding/watering/cleaning up pets and cleaning off the table. Other chores can include vacuuming, organizing bookshelves, filing cabinets, homework piles, etc. I also choose a different room every day or every two days (depending on the size of the room) to be cleaned as a family, we spend a half and hour in there with music on or something and we all clean up a little.

    Your:

9 year old – room clean, looking after pets, helping with cooking.

    8 year old – same.

6 year old – room clean, pick up toys in the house.

They should all make sure bikes are away at night, toys in from outside, that sort of stuff.

washing dishes taking out the garbage running the vacuum make a chart where everyone has a specific task for that week and rotate the chores the 8 and 9 year olds should be able to handle these chores the 6yr old could be included with this as well.
