Why is it that the most confident people lives in first world countries?

BeckerJames asked:

Don’t get me wrong, I have seen confident people in 3rd world countries, but they are exceptional people who stand out from the crowd. In places like Norway, the UK, Switzerland, the US (every time less to be honest) confident, go getter people is common. They take good care of them selves, take risks, have goals, have social skills?

I have read some ’self-help’ books on goal setting, confidence, social skills, etc and I have noticed that people from 1st world countries lives the way it is advised in those books but on an unconscious level, as if they had been trained like that from generation in generation.

Scott… can you please explain what makes me an idiot? how old are you?
to chelsea… i think we agree in some parts but not so much about others… I have noticed image problems only in the US (generally speaking) and in othr places like Europe its only a few people with those kind of issues. I even noticed it was considered of bad taste talking or making jokes bout fat/ugly people… I had the deepest, interesting conversations with 1st or 2nd world countries… and I repeat, I dont mean that 3rd world countries people are empty or stupid…

besides, my question was not only oriented towards self image but to: goal setting, confidence, etc

What you are saying is nonsensical. Am i the only one who realizes that the people in these so called ‘first world countries’ look up to those movie stars who are bad role models and spend thousands of dollars a year just to look like a blowup doll? The kids and some adults in these countries are following these celebrities, which i call low self esteem which to me is the exact opposite of confidence. These third world countries might have poverty problems, but first world countries suffer from other problems like self image. Everywhere i turn there’s a,Am i pretty?’ question. Even adults have there own self esteem problems. Most commercials are filled with products to make your skin younger. There are even some for men with natural male enhancement. Tell me who has the confidence problem now?

i was watching the Olympics last night and i saw some pretty confident people from what is still a (granted, its quickly rising) developing nation (China)! what is fascinating to me is that 5-10 years ago those people would have had a tiny fraction of that confidence! i think the rise of China will prove to be one of, if not THE biggest sea Change event of our lifetimes
